Organizing A Bonafide Mess!

We all find ourselves cleaning the same things around the house on a day-to-day basis. My kitchen gets the most cleaning of course since it's the heart of our home. It's literally positioned in the center of the house and is open to our livingroom.

See? The kitchen doesn't look that bad, ever. And this picture was taken right after making breakfast! The rest of the house for the most part stays clean and organized. Aside from all the key spots in our homes that require daily cleaning, there is most certainly a spot for all of us that can be neglected day in and day out. It is a spot that we can easily block out of our minds, and even camouflage to appear clean, and organized when it is in fact NOT. For example, a closet, under a bed, a corner cabinet or drawer..... You get the picture.

With that in mind, I want to switch focus on a little area of our home that is an extension of our kitchen. The butler's pantry. It is a really neat feature to our modest home. I specifically remember thinking how I would like the extra storage space it would provide.... It turns out, it has slowly become a "catch-all" for any, and everything I am too lazy to find a proper place for!

As you get closer, you see the mess begin to unfold. Hmm, except of course for the towel you see there that "has been folded", and has just never been put in it's proper place. Geez!!!

Check out the rest of the "hidden" mess...there are no words, so I'm not even going to try to explain.

Ha...ha........ha. This is fun guys, uuuum right? Seeing my mess...ha....ha. Ha. (cringe)

Okay, now that my heart rate is back to normal and the anxiety attack has subsided, let me show you how it looks now...

A couple of 1/2 priced baskets from Hobby Lobby and two LARGE trashbags was all it took to pull it all back together. I don't have a designated area to keep crafting supplies except for here. So I used one of the larger baskets to hold all crafting supplies. Another was used for school supplies, etc...

So you see, things aren't always as perfect as it seems but I'm thinking after this post, it will be much easier for me to keep the mess to a minimum from my butler's pantry for some time. :)

Emily at Decorchick! is hosting a link party this week and the theme is
Real Homes. Real Messes. Real Life.

I encourage you to link up with us and share your mess, but most of all encourage each other in knowing that there's no such thing as perfect!

Post Holiday Mantlescape: A Before and After

Hi friends! I hope you all had a wonderful holiday! I feel like I've been away from my blog FOREVER. One of my New Year Resolutions= blog more. :)  I thought I would start this year off with a mini before and after. The last of the holiday decorations that were taken down was on my fireplace mantle. When it was all cleared off, I couldn't wait to create a new mantlescape that would hold me over until the next major holiday. I took a huge framed print off one of my walls, leaned it on the mantle and went from there. I shopped my home for some of my favorite things....so my mantle went from this:

To this...

This little antique bird house was a score from a garage sale last summer. It's so cute!

This little plaque was a Christmas gift from a dear friend. She's so sweet for thinking of me when she saw the little bird. :) This plaque is handmade from an old piece of wood. The thin sheet of copper nailed on with the bird and branch image is hand chiseled/dented (?) on. Does anyone know what this method is called? Anyway, it's very cool, handmade, and obviously one of a kind. :) I'm thrilled to have it!

And here's the finished mantle again...

I love it. It's warm and cozy. It's a relief to have the holiday decorations put away! Did you make any changes to your decor after putting the Christmas decorations away? Or, do you manage to put everything back in it's original place?

Trimming Our Christmas Tree

This year our family picked a beautiful 8ft Noble Fir. It was really fresh when we bought it, and I think it will still have all it's needles by Christmas! Yay! Can't tell you how many Christmases we've had where all the presents were nicely doused with dead pine needles.  :(
It was incredibly difficult taking nice photos, which is why I'm secretly hoping for a new camera under this very tree on Christmas day! If not, my birthday is not too far behind. So, there's hope!

I've had these CUTE crocheted ornaments for several years. I don't think I will ever let go of them, I love them so much! This one is a santa...

A pretty angel blowing his trumpet...

...and my snowman!

Thanks for stopping by!

Christmas Mantel and Wintry Hurricanes

Nothing gets me revved up for Christmas more than decorating my mantel! I'm sort of obsessive about it.  :)  This year, I'm fortunate to enjoy the incredible smell of fresh, real garland! I went over to The Home Depot and just walked over to the Christmas tree section and asked for all the tree trimmings. Yes, I took ALL of it. The little guy there was even kind enough to wrap it nicely in the netting and carry it out to my truck. AWESOME!! Here's my mantel...

I'm so sooo in LOVE with it. First word that comes to mind is WINTRY.

I took my dollar store hurricanes and filled them with water, and added some of the trimming. Then, attached a cute snowflake ornament. The ornament really completes the look. Again, I'm in love. :)

I used one of the spare gold frames I picked up from a Roadkill Rescue in a previous post, and hung glittery mistletoe ornaments. Mind if I say it again? Love.

A few more pictures...

Ahhhh, Christmas. I've got the Christmas spirit. Now, I'm off to add more garland around the house! Thanks for stopping by, and I hope everyone is having a joyous season so far.
