My Craigslist Hutch

What do you do over a long holiday weekend? Tackle a HUGE painting project all by yourself of course!
Ooh, but the results are so rewarding.  :) I mentioned in an earlier post that I would be revamping a hutch I bought off of Craigslist. This cute little hutch was $50.00! I set it up in my dining room just to see how it would look and hoped it would help me decide on what color to paint it. The hutch was pretty much a natural wood color with a very light whitewash finish that I totally didn't like. It had this weird pinkish tone to it that drove me NUTS. I asked for several opinions and more than half told me to leave it as it was. That wasn't the answer I wanted to hear!

After finishing my last chair project and seeing how beautiful it looks sitting in my dining room, I decided yet again, on the ever so famous-Satin Heirloom White by Rust-Oleum...

Here's the hutch in it's original pinkish state:
I started off by removing everything from the hutch.
(I really love all my accessories!)   :)

Then, I covered up the backboard using plastic grocery bags. I have plenty of those stashed in my pantry-gotta put them to use somehow!

ALL of my outdoor photos of the painting process turned out horribly. My "workshop" is my garage, and it was 90+ degrees this weekend and it felt like 120 degrees. I was pretty delirious during that time so I didn't care to try and retake them. Can you blame me? So we are skipping on to the drawers. As you can see, I distressed the paint a tad...

After the paint was dried and the distressing was done, I removed the plastic bags and painted the backboard with "Soar" by Behr.

It is this little $2.00 thrift store picture that inspired the color I chose.
I LOVE THIS LITTLE PICTURE!

Here's how it turned out...

...I added new polished silver drawer pulls too.

I just love how all my white dishes and glass accessories are complimented by that pretty blue!

I am sooo pleased with the results! I can now finally move on to other projects that have been put on the back burner. I'll be stepping away from the painting for a little while, and reloading the hot glue gun ...See you soon!

The hutch looks GORGEOUS! Great job and LOVE the colors. The blue really makes a HUGE difference. See my hutch re-do before http://outofdeepwaters.blogspot.com/2009/11/big-news.html and after http://outofdeepwaters.blogspot.com/2009/11/here-it-is.html. I DID NOT paint mine, someone else did. I just sold it too. Buy you some more hutches on Craigslist and do your thing and sell them! It's fun and lucrative!

Isn't it amazing what the slightest color difference can make. I have also found alot of pinkish tones on pieces that would look so much nicer in a cooler white. Love how the soft blue makes all your accessories pop!! Thanks for sharing on Modern Craftswoman Monday! Rory
